. president obama is warning of dire consequences for all of us in lawmakers don't act quickly. we're talking about those forced budget cuts that take effect march 1st, slashing $85 billion from spending across the board this year. but with just ten days left, the consequences are backing more alarming. president obama outlined some of them today, told congress, let's make a deal while there is still some time. >> my door is open. i've put tough cuts and reforms on the table. i am willing to work with anybody to get this job done. none of us will get 100% of what we want. but nobody should want these cuts to go through because the last thing our families can afford right now is pain imposed unnecessarily by partisan recklessness and ideological rigid tea here in washington. visually, the president tried to make that point by having law enforcement officers standing behind him. many of them could lose their jobs. our joe johns is covering that with the different ways that the budget cuts could directly affect you. we also have renee marsh covering the potential cut and how it kol affect the fo

that are going to take effect, and while we may be short on time, we are not short on blame. president obama for one was busy today with no less than eight local television interviews. the president, according to the white house, telling his side of the story directly to the american people, blaming republicans in this interview with wcvb boston. >> the way this arose was back in 2011, the republicans were threatening to default on the full faith and credit of the united states. and we had to avoid that. the hope was that they would use this year and a half to come up with a sensible deficit reduction package. now, we've reduced $2.5 trillion on our deficit. we've got about $1.5 trillion more to go. there's a better way to do it than this, but the key is for them to go ahead and put forward the balanced, responsible approach that will avoid these cuts. >> he wants them to put forth the approach. john boehner, meanwhile with, is the them, sort of. he made his case directly to the people too, today, blaming the president and he wrote in a "wall street journal" op-ed, mr. president, we agree th

. >> president obama is beefing up security. he invoked private sector to work with the government to prevent hacking. you look at that and say that's not going to come easy. there's time involved with that. you do this for a living. what do you think can be done right now? >> well, i think companies really need to invest in security. we deal with a lot of the fortune 100 and 1000 companies out there. it's never been easier to break into them. i can't think of a time and place where i've been stopped from breaking into an organization. i think companies really need to take security seriously and really focus on protecting the organizations and intellectual property because the government spt going to be able to do it for them. focusing on fixing high impact vulnerabilities and making sure they can protect their organizations. at the end of the day those seek res make us strong as an economy. these breaches are very, very, very common. we deal with breaches on wide scales all the time and almost always originating from the chinese government. >> pretty frightening. david mckenzie, thanks for y

originated in the obama white house but was approved by the house and the senate. in front of a sea of first responders in washington, the president today lashed out at republicans in congress saying if legislators don't come to an agreement, emergency services will take a hit. that was just one of a number of possible consequences the president listed off if the cuts are allowed to begin march 1st. he talked about fewer police and firefighters, longer airport security lines, lost jobs, criminals going free, teachers being laid off. democrats in the senate have proposed replacing the forced spending cuts with reduced defense spending and add to agriculture subsidies and more tax revenue for millionaires, but house republicans have rejected any increased taxes as solution. here's what the president had to say today about that. >> so far at least the idea is that the republicans have proposed asks nothing of the wealthiest americans or biggest corporations, so the burden is all on first responders or seniors or middle class families. they double down, in fact, on the harsh, harmful cuts that i

to the forced spending cuts to take effect in eight days. president obama made some talk radio appearances. >> whether or not we can move republicans at this point to do the right thing is what we're still trying to gauge. >> now, he's called the cuts severe and brutal. house speaker john boehner, guess what, completely agrees with that. he's called them deep and dangerous, but they're not doing anything about it. here's the thing about the cuts. they're going to hurt some people that nobody wants to hurt. people already in pain, more than 4 million homebound and disabled seniors may have to go without dinner this year because of cuts to meals on wheels programs in the forced cuts. 70,000 children from lower income families will not be able to enroll in preschools and day care centers because of the forced spending cuts. the owners of about 10,000 homes and small businesses destroyed by hurricane sandy won't get the money needed for repair and recovery. now, there are all kinds of things in the forced cuts, some of which you may agree with, but some of which all of us would find offensive.
